Brewdog DogTap – Canal Winchester

Brewdog Bar

Where is Brewdog DogTap?

The DogTap is in Canal Winchester, Ohio, just southeast of Columbus. The reason this facility is special (and why it is so massive) is it’s the very first Brewdog in America! Brewdog is one of the biggest (if not THE biggest) craft brewers in Europe, and they have been met with tons of success bringing their beers to the USA.

This site also holds the Brewdog Doghouse hotel, a literal brewery-hotel for their sours, complete with shower-beers in every room (you read that right). With other neighbors like Loose Rail Brewing and Walnut Woods Metro Park, this is a very fun area.

They have lots of parking on site, no worries!

When is it open?

The DogTap is open every day from 11a – 9p. Follow them on instagram @brewdogdogtap or on their website at brewdog.com to keep up with the latest and greatest.

The Menu - What Are They Known For?

Beers: They really go all out for IPAs, favorites include Elvis Juice for citrus lovers and Hazy Jane New England-style IPA (my two favorites). However, they do branch out quite a bit into IPLs, lagers, light beers (as in low calorie, not necessarily tasting like your typical “lite”), sours, and ciders.

I also have to note something really unique here: they have a selection of alcohol-free beers made to be their flagship beers, just without the booze. They have one nearly-alcohol-free beer too (Nanny State). All of these are great options for those who love the taste of their beers, but need to keep your wits about you.

As for food, it should come as no surprise that they do not disappoint here either. The menu is truly enormous, but here are the highlights: apps, salads, burgers, pizza, wings (and cauli wings), tacos, and sundaes! They have vegetarian and vegan options galore. Also, they serve brunch on the weekends until 3 pm. Did we mention they have unlimited Wing Wednesdays for $20??

What's the space like?

As their American headquarters, it shouldn’t be a shocker that this place is huge – it is a full scale production facility after all. The entrance opens into a lobby, where you can put your name in, and if there’s a wait, grab a beer and hang out. The giant map mural on the wall is a great way to see the massive presence they have, with all their locations on it. You can also see a Lego model of the facility and a choose from a large selection of to-go beers in this lobby.

Once you’re taken back to sit down, you notice the inside is definitely industrial in aesthetic, with a rustic touch – the bar and tables are wood, the taps are coming out of a  shipping container, and the big “BREWDOG” sign reminds you of a marquee you’d see walking down main street in the city.

The outdoor space is very large as well, with some round tables but mostly picnic-style seating. The vast majority of the spots are covered or have and umbrella to keep the sun off of you. There are also fire pits for those chilly fall nights!

There’s also the even-more-fun area of the arcade, complete with shuffleboard and pinball. Or, if you want to nerd-out about the beer (like you know we do), you can go on a brewery tour.

Other things to do in the area

Clearly, you’re not afraid to venture outside the outerbelt. Head north to Porter’s Coffee House and Bakery for a hidden gem.

About Brewdog, and Special Events!

Local: Brewdog is committed to supporting the local community and sustainability initiatives. That can sound like a lot of fluff from a big company, but you’ll notice that it’s true, especially if you take a peek at the Doghouse Hotel. They serve local Stauf’s Coffee, use Glenn Avenue Soap Company products, and even have Rogue Fitness equipment in the gym!

Environment: They are also now carbon-negative, perhaps the first brewery to achieve this. That means they go beyond offsetting the carbon that they produce as a part of the brewing process through avenues like renewable energy and managing natural areas/planting.

Unicorns: Brewdog has a “unicorn fund” in which they give 10% of their profits back to their teams, and 10% to charities.

AGM: They host an annual event too – the  Annual General Mayhem (AGM). This started as a celebration of Brewdog, craft beer, and the Equity Punks. Let me explain: Equity for Punks was a program where you could buy into the company, as in own a literal piece of Brewdog. This was done in an effort to expand their operations and fund initiatives at first. The program is now closed after successfully raising the money they needed.

However, the AGM lives on – in the past, Equity punks got in for $15 starting at 11a, and the general public for $30 at 3p. As this is truly a craft beer celebration, you can add things on to your ticket, like a beer tasting! This event is more akin to a festival, largely centered around concerts, attracting major musical talent from far and wide. This party continues into the late hours of the night.

Loyalty Club: perhaps this is in the spirit of continuing support of Brewdog’s raving fans – they’ve recently launched a loyalty club where you can complete challenges and earn points for Brewdog goodies!

Last but not least: Just a cool sidenote, Brewdog is a transparent company, and they give away all their recipes (looking at you, home brewers).
