Where is Brioso Roastery?

Brioso Roastery and Coffee Bar is a personal favorite in the mural-decorated Discovery District in Downtown Columbus. It is one of two locations Brioso has downtown – they also opened a totally redone downtown location in late 2019. The roastery is across the street from the original Roosevelt Coffee House, and just around the corner from the Hills Market downtown.

When is it open?

Brioso Roastery and Coffee Bar is currently open from 7a-2p Monday through Friday, 8a-2p on Saturday. They are closed on Sunday. You can keep up with any updates on their website or on Instagram (@briosocoffee). They re-opened dine-in service in May 2021, but you can still order online to-go if you please.

The Menu - What Are They Known For?

Brioso crafts delicious lattes in tasteful glassware, a pretty unique aesthetic amongst local roasters. If you enjoy a good latte, try their Feelin Sappy bourbon-barrel-aged maple latte (Note: may be seasonal). If coffee straight-up is more your thing, they have a great selection of pour-overs roasted in house. Going to hang out with your friends, but coffee doesn’t do it for you? Not to worry, they have a good selection of teas. They also have delicious local baked goods from Happy Little Treats

What's the space like?

Like exposed brick? With the industrial aesthetic of brick walls, wood tables, and chrome-crown light bulbs protruding from the walls, Brioso will be your new favorite. It is a roastery, so be aware that if you’re there at a time when coffee if being roasted, it can get a little loud, especially on the left side of the space. This might not bother you if you’re someone who likes ambient noise to focus, or you can always just work with a pair of headphones. The ambience is that of more subtle lighting, with light mostly coming in from the windows at the front.

This coffee bar is medium sized for the area, with seats in 3 sections: the front of the shop is bisected into left and right sides, and there is bar-style seating towards the back of the shop. The division of areas leaves it with the cozy feeling of a smaller shop. The main seats at the tables are high chairs or stools, with some more plush seating options near the front of the shop, looking out on E Long St. (Note that the furniture in these pictures has been removed during the time period that they are doing carry-out only – we can’t wait until things return to normal!)

Is it a good work space?

Yes, free wifi coupled with outlets around the perimeter and large table spaces make it ideal if you need to get things done. If you’re looking to work for a while, and prefer to sit for a while, stand for a while, the height of their tables is perfect.

Our Experience

We have been to Brioso Roastery and Coffee Bar a few times. Michael keeps coming back to their maple-forward lattes, Lia is more of a sampler, enjoying some lattes, coffees and teas. We see it as a good Saturday morning stop to get some planning done while bringing us into an artistic area of downtown. Don’t skip out on the local baked goods offered!

Other things to do in the area

If you need a lot more pick-me-up, caffeinate further across the street at The Roosevelt Coffeehouse.

Looking for something a little harder? Try the Elevator Brewing Taproom around the corner. [UPDATE: Sadly, the Elevator Taproom is now a fond memory for locals, fallen in the COVID era. However, take heart! another local brewery, Jackie O’s, has taken over that space – be sure to check them out.]

Want to have some fun? Head a little further south down 4th St. to 16 Bit Bar + Arcade.
