This brewery is in downtown Knoxville, in the Emory Place neighborhood (though they describe it as the 4th and Gill neighborhood). They’re in good company – if you made a triangle out of Remedy Coffee, Xul Beer Co. and Craft Axe Throwing, they would be right smack in the middle.
There is a small parking lot and street parking around the area.
They also have a second location in the process of opening (early 2021) in The West Knoxville/Farragut area – check it out @craftybastardbrewerywest for updates.
When is it open?
Crafty Bastard Brewery is open Monday 5p – 10p, Tuesday through Friday 4p – 10p, Saturday 2p – 10p, and Sunday 2p – 9p. They are open inside and on the patio, and have to-go service as well. (Note: many of the pictures here are from one of the first covid-era visits when they were patio-only.) Keep up with their hours on craftybastardbrewery.com or check them out on Instagram @craftybastardbrewery.
So, how's the beer?
Guys, this one is hard to write about. I’m going to tell you to just go try a bunch of weird stuff! Seriously, you can’t go wrong with something like their Hop Candy IPA, but at least half their menu is stuff that pushes the limits. To name a few: two rye beers, a Peat Smoked Porter, a Mayan Chocolate Chili Porter, and multiple IPA style beers at 9%+ ABV. Just go taste a bunch!
They also host food trucks sometimes if you have the munchies – check out the links in the last section to see their calendar/what’s going on.
I’ll note that they also have merch available in shirts, sweathsirts, stickers, beer soaps – I personally enjoy the slogan “stay crafty, ya bastards!”
What's the space like?
We recommend patio-chillin’ at Crafty Bastard right now in this weather! It’s a laid back space with picnic tables. Not a bad spot to throw back a few – the adjacent streets haven’t been busy at all when we’re there. One of the above pictures is from the inside during a “covid visit” – we’ll do our best to get indoor pics up soon.
Other things to do in the area
If you need some pick-me-up, caffeinate at Remedy, only a couple minutes west.
Looking to sample more brews? Try Xul Beer Co, a couple blocks to the east.
