Where is Global Gallery (and where can I park)?
This local coffee gem is located in the heart of Clintonville right on High St. It is just north of Dough Mama, but if you’ve hit Flowers and Bread, you’ve gone too far. Looking for it on the drive? The storefront is set in, off of the street; instead, look for the big covered patio (see pics).
There is plenty of street parking around – if you don’t get a spot along High St, a side street in the area can accomodate (although Global Gallery does have just a couple parking spots that are sometimes unoccupied).
When is it open?
Right now, Global Gallery is open Sunday through Thursday 8a – 7p, Friday and Saturday 8a – 8p. Be warned: the times I just listed are on their website and Instagram, but Google will tell you they are open Monday through Friday 7:30a – 8p, Saturday and Sunday 8a – 8p. These are some of the longest hours in the area for local shops.
Pre-COVID hours were even longer, Monday-Saturday 7a-8p, Sunday 8a-7p, but we aren’t sure they’ll go back to that.. Keep up-to-date with what’s going on @global_gallery on Instagram or on their website.
As of June 2021, they still aren’t open for indoor dining, only allowing 3 socially-distanced persons in the shop at a time to order. However, we can attest to the spacious patio that they have run plenty of power outlets to.
What Are They Known For?
Look, we both know the phrase “they have a little bit of everything” is cliche, so I’ll cut to the point. You won’t find the two of us complaining about a good drip, latte, or even cold brew, and Global Gallery certainly doesn’t disappoint. However, I would recommend trying something a little different when you visit – they have less conventional flavors like raspberry mocha, nitro cold brew, or lavender matcha. Global Gallery is one of the local shops that is not a roaster, instead supporting local roasters, notably One Line Coffee and Ramble Coffee.
They don’t stop at coffee. In fact, they have local beer drafts and cans to go, cocktails, and a weekly wine bar on the patio Fridays and Saturdays 4p – 8p. Let’s not forget their assortment of local baked goods as well, from favorites like Bake Me Happy gluten free goodies, Patty Cake Bakery vegan cookies and muffins, Melissa’s scones, bagels, and Tupelo donuts.
What you should know about Global Gallery is you can feel doubly-good about supporting them – not only are they local, but they exist as a non-profit all about fair trade and helping artists here and abroad. They sell lots of local artisans’ merchandise, and become a literal gallery for local artists, even hosting a reception for them (it’s not just a name).
Special Events
Global Gallery participates in some local, infrequent occasions too. They sometimes have creative workshops – in June 2021 they held a Monarch way station making shop (for the Monarch butterflies).
Saturdays in June, they will be a part of a pop-up market with the help of their neighbors. It is unclear if that will continue (or come back), but we hope so!
What's the space like?
Global Gallery’s inside space is sectioned into 2 parts – a small bar area (no seating, just ordering) and a section with bar-style seating and tables, with room for about a dozen normally. However, right now that side is closed due to COVID precautions.
This coffee shop has become even more sought out for a hang out or study session (at least, in our opinion) in this time of exercising caution. It has an enormous patio (for a coffee shop) with seating for at least 30. The large overhang provides shade most of the day for about half of the seating. On a warm, breezy day this spot is nearly perfect. Strict sanitizing protocols were in place when we visited – tables are sanitized between each guest, and only one person may enter the inside space to order at a time.
Is it a good spot to work?
Yes, with ample room to spread out and strong wifi, working/studying from here is a snap. The outdoor space isn’t particularly noisy, but be aware that it is High Street adjacent. Those looking for “high” or “tall” seating options may want to stay tuned for the indoor space to open back up. Global Gallery has run power strips out to the patio for electronics that need some juice.
Our Experience
In the post-coronavirus openings, or “new normal” as it is being dubbed, this was a very enjoyable experience. The iced raspberry mocha and gunpowder green iced tea hit the spot on a hot day, and the outdoor space (with its large tables) allowed us to get a solid amount of work done.
