Columbus Donut Fest

What is it?

The Columbus Donut Fest is one of the newest festivals in Cbus, having had their 2nd gathering in early 2020. If you don’t already know, Columbus is ABOUT festivals, and we figured it is only right that we start posting about them with one of the best! After all, donuts are the best dessert there is (we will fight you on this).

The Donut Fest celebrates all things doughnut, bringing together a dozen of these delectable bakers under one roof for you to compare and maybe find your new favorite. January 2020’s event was “caffiene and carbs” edition, also sporting 4 coffee vendors, adult beverages, and more for at least 30 booths total.

Where is it?

The second annual Columbus Donut Fest was at Strongwater Food and Spirits. The first was at The Vue, so I can’t say where this festival will be next year, but you can check out @heydonutsquad on Instagram for updates.

What about 2021?

Well, we can’t say for sure. After a pre-pandemic strong start to 2020, the organizers kept the ball rolling with a “Drafts & Dough” beer tasting kit and sponsoring Donut Week, June 1-7, 2020. They even released a donut passport, where you can collect stamps for your visits to local donut shops – 4 stamps entered you the chance to win a grand prize pack with gift cards, free donuts for a year, coffee, and swag.

However, since July 2020, we haven’t seen anything new from them on social media, so we don’t know what that means for the festival transitioning out of the pandemic. You can follow them on their website as well, columbusdonutfest.com. Hopefully we can have a “3rd Annual” event this year, but no news yet!

What you need to know about visiting:

Be prepared to meet all your sugar and caffeine needs in 4 seconds! This last go around, we bought “Donut Fiend” wristbands that got us all day access (11a-4p) that cleverly held tear-off donut and drink tickets. It came with 3 donut tickets and a drink ticket, if memory serves (might be a little hazy from the sugar high). Believe me, a couple drinks and 6 donuts between us and we were not left wanting.

Of course, if you have to try them all, you can always purchase some more. Couple our wristbands with free coffee and even some free mixed drinks and everyone seemed to be a happy camper. Your ticket also comes with a mug (as you can see above) and a box for your goodies. There are cheaper tickets too, I guess for people with self control? They have 2 hour time slots, a mug, 1 full sized donut and a donut box for carrying.

Other things to do in the area

If you’re around Strongwater (or just in Franklinton) anyway, here’s were you can pick up your favorite:

Coffee: One Line Coffee – Franklinton

Beer: Brewdog – Franklinton

Or maybe, you need to get out of Cbus for a bit. Head to Battelle Darby Metro Park
