We have good news and bad news. Bad news first: sadly, this taproom is no longer in existence. It passed on during 2020, just another change the pandemic brought us. As one of our favorite downtown Columbus hangouts, it pained us to see it go.
Good news: that doesn’t mean Elevator is gone – the upscale downtown restaurant and draught haus is still up and running! Check them out at their website or on Instagram @elevatortbh. Second bit of good news: This space has now been claimed by Jackie O’s (a brewery originally born out of Athens, OH) and has plans for massive expansion! As a BBA fan, I would can Jackie O’s the kings of bourbon-barrel aged beers, so I am pretty excited to see this come to Columbus. Check them out on their website or on Instagram @jackieosbrewery.
We hope to post on both of those spaces in the future; for now, please enjoy this homage to North Fourth Street’s past.
Where is the Elevator Taproom?
Despite its name, Elevator Brewing’s taproom is ground-level in Downtown Columbus along 4th Street, between Pins and Wolf’s Ridge Brewing, across from the Downtown Columbus Dog Park. Parking is located all around it in lots including right next door, but if you’re looking to park for free, you may have to try to find a meter on a Sunday.
When is it open?
SPECIAL NOTE FOR COVID-19: Elevator’s taproom has started to be open Thursdays and Fridays at 4pm and Saturdays from noon-6pm. You can also order for pickup on Saturdays. Stay up to date on their hours by checking out their instagram (@elevatorbrewingco) or website.
They normally open Tuesday-Friday at 4p, Saturday-Sunday at noon.
How's the beer?
Elevator is one of those breweries that runs the gamut – I have seen nearly every style of beer from them over the last couple years. At stores around town, you’re likely to see Bleeding Buckeye red ale and Three Frogs triple-hopped IPA. At the taproom, we have seen everything from IPAs to stouts, wheat beers to saisons, and barrel-aged options, even at the same time of year.
If you want to take something with you, not only can you grab a growler here, but they have a selection of bottles and cans to-go as well.
What's the space like?
This is one of the places in Columbus that everyone would consider “chill”. You’re basically drinking on the brewery floor, sitting on folding chairs or keg-barstools, playing games or enjoying sunshine with your friends (and dogs!). You can even enjoy sports they have up on the screens. Looks like your Saturday day-drinking just found a new home.
Don’t skip out on claiming your space on the map wall, especially if you’re visiting from a distance!
Our Experience
We had a grab-and-go visit in the wake of reopenings from coronavirus, and snagged the Horny Goat barrel-aged porter and Don’t Haze Me Bruh hazy IPA, both of which were a thumbs-up. The porter drinks very smooth when compared to a lot of its barrel-aged competitors, and the IPA was smooth and bright, something we’d recommend you grab poolside.
We have been here many times, however. You might like to check out what they’re having for events when planning a trip downtown – they have trivia, open mic, and live music nights.
Other things to do in the area
As mentioned above, you are right in the thick of it at this brewery. For more beers, walk a couple doors down to Wolf’s Ridge Brewing.
