Jacks of Knoxville

Where is it?

Jacks it at 854 N. Central St in North Knoxville (Fourth and Gill neighborhood). This is the same company that has Jacks of All Trades/Highline coffee in Old City at 133 S Gay St Unit C. Jacks is in good company, sandwiched between Magpies and Knox Food Park.

It has its own small parking lot, but there is street parking and other lots throughout the area.

When is it open?

Jacks is open Monday through Friday 7:30a – 8p, Saturday and Sunday 9a – 8p. To keep up with them, check them out on Instagram @jacksofknoxville or on jacksofknoxville.com.

The Menu - What Are They Known For?

Jacks has no shortage of coffee drinks, including specials like cereal milk affogato and strawberry matcha latte they had at the eco-alley market. They also have food – toasts, sandwiches, bagels, muffins, scones, cookies, just trust us, you won’t go hungry!

They had their first eco-alley market (aka “Jacks market”) on June 19, 2021, and have kept it going since. It brings together makers of all sorts, from clothing and jewelry to food and beyond. Based on the last 4 months, it looks like they are holding a market once a month on the third Saturday. On a recent trip, they still had the “Jacks thrift shop” up in their side room. FYI, you can also rent the side room out.

What's the space like?

The space is neat, very clean feeling with a black exterior contrasted by a completely white interior with tons of natural light – the whole front of the store is windows. Jacks also has a more dimly lit back room with books for sale, including poetry, popular titles, and local topics (Dolly Parton, anyone?).

Basically, this location is half coffee shop, half plant store (well, maybe more plant store by square footage). They have every houseplant and succulent you could want, from small propagations to 3 foot tall snake plants. Plants range in price from succulents at $5 to well past $100 for the bigger ones.

Is it a good work space?

Yes! Seating is mostly 2 person tables throughout, with a comfy seating section of a coach and chairs for 4-5 people. Out front, they have 10 seats (2 person tables).Out back, they look to have a large back patio but it wasn’t set up when we visited. Those looking for “tall” or standing/bar-height seating options might want to snag a spot right up front at the coffee bar.

There is room inside for around 40 total including the cozy back room, bringing the total space to about 50 people. Music was playing, ranging from acoustic/folk to low tempo (chill) electronic. There was password protected wifi, and outlets around the perimeter.

Our Experience

We just went for a couple simple iced lattes that hit the spot on a hot day of our last visit. But, they just released the fall menu and we have to go back – espresso cream soda and the cinnamon bomb latte sound amazing! We did sit and get some work done for a couple hours, finding it easy to focus in the space. I’ll say that (whether it is true or not) all the plants make it feel very clean and inviting.
